Female Teacher, 22, Arrested for Sexually Assaulting 18-Year-Old Male Student Thrice!

Tayler Ivy Boncal, 22, a former teacher and coach at a high school in West Hartford, Connecticut, has been arrested for being sexually involved with an 18-year-old male student.
She has been immediately charged with three accounts of second-degree sexual accounts. As the story unfolds, certain complexities regarding this relationship have been revealed. She has since been terminated from the district school.

When this relationship started, Tayler Ivy was 21 years old and was not coaching the student. The arrested and the victim admitted that heir relationship began when the student asked for the teacher’s phone number.
From there on, several messages and pictures were exchanged between the two.The student’s parents have already come forward and claimed that this relationship was entirely consensual as the two ‘were in love’.

From the statements in the arrest warrant, it seems to be the case that the exchange was reciprocal rather than one-sided. Hence, the claim of the victim’s parents to not persecute Boncal.

The student, who initially reported this episode of what seems to be sexual impropriety, has asked to remain anonymous.
It is a smart decision in order to not further complicate the case, as long as the reporter helps the authorities make a sound decision.

There has been effort by the general public to take back the charges and release the teacher. The victim initially denied the allegations, but then admitted to the happening. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Tayler Ivy Boncal consciously turned herself to police.

With the male student’s parents taking Boncal’s side, the principal of the school released an official statement in an attempt to present an explanation, and also so that the gravity of the situation may be realized by the general public. This was also to give parents reassurance of the fact that such a sexual predator no longer works in the same school.

The principal’s statement stated the following:
“Dear Parent/Guardian,
The safety and well-being of all students is and will always be my number one priority. I know that there have been rumors amongst students these past few weeks. Now that the police action has concluded, I am able to inform you of an incident that I was made aware of between a former student teacher/assistant coach and a student.
Once I received the misconduct complaint, I immediately informed the police and launched an investigation. While I cannot comment on the specifics of the investigation, I can tell you that this person no longer works at Conard. The incident did not occur on our campus and I have been working closely with both the New Britain and West Hartford Police Departments to ensure that this individual is held accountable for their actions.
As educators, we are entrusted to protect and educate all of our students and know there are certain boundaries that can never be crossed. Also, we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises the safety or well-being of our students. I hope you will not let the misconduct of this one individual cast a shadow over all of our staff members who demonstrate their commitment to our students every day.”
Many expressed concerns for the boy who wold face the trauma of assault
But that’s not all! In a verbal statement by the victim, there was an exchange of sexually illicit pictures between him and Boncal. However, he has failed to provide a written statement.
According to the Washington Post, student-teacher scandals are on the rise and schools have become potential gateways for sexual predators.
In November 2017, there was a similar case of an exchange of text messages between a teacher, Hunter Day (22) and her student. The teacher was consequently arrested.
Many people have shown their concern regarding the rather complicated and unfortunate situation. It has started a conversation about what constitutes consensual or inappropriate relationships and what constitutes sexual assault.
There is also the problem of demand for schools; in terms of hiring, the public wants to know who really is qualified or old enough to teach.
It is rather timely, as there is already a conversation about the increasing number of sexual assault victims finally coming out with the ‘#MeToo’ tag on social media.
